About Chinese Brush Works

Chinese brush paintings and calligraphies is an unique form of art which is opposed to oil painting in Western countries. It is hand-painted with a brush dipped in black ink or coloured pigments; oils are not used. The most popular materials on which paintings are made are paper. The finished work can be mounted on scrolls, such as hanging scrolls. The main subjects is flower-and-bird and mountainous landscapes. According to painting technique, the most influential and popular genres is Freehand style and Fine-brush with Freehand style. The freehand brush works emphasize the semblance in the spiritual aspect but do not chase for the physical similarity and the cooperation of reality. They mostly grasp the most obvious or essential spiritual characteristics and focus on the personality and the cooperation of every element in the painting.
